what are the odds in the 09 Draft?
As I was watching college football all day today, I started thinking about how the NFL draft next year will work out. I thought of all the great quarterbacks in the past, and how much they dominate the draft, and then I thought of the current class of quarterbacks, and how bad they are. Don't get me wrong, there is a lot of talent there, but I don't see anybody being a legit NFL player. These are my top 5 college quarterbacks. I will also write what I think about them and where they should be drafted. 1) Tim Tebow, QB, Florida. Obviously, Tebow is an amazing college talent. His numbers show that. He dominates the college game, in numbers, as well as wins, like few can. However, he is not an NFL quarterback, as far as I can tell. He runs a gimmick offense and takes it from the shotgun nearly every time. I can't see him being a top pick in next year's draft. I see him as a second or third round pick, tops. At least, that's where I would take him. 2) Pat White, QB, West Virginia. I don't even think I need to explain myself about this. Pat White is barely a college quarterback, let alone a professional one. Like Tebow, he is a good college player, but wont be on Sundays. He has a future as a receiver or a tailback, but not as a quarterback. And like most players who fall into this category (Anquan Boldin, Michael Robinson, Brad Smith), he will be lucky to be a first day pick. 3) Chase Daniel, QB, Missouri. Being a Missouri fan, I would like to see Chase do well at the next level, but I don't think it will happen. A guy at his size (6 foot tall) just doesn't do well, unless you are an extremely special player who catches on with a good system, like Drew Brees did. He makes way too many mistakes for somebody who has been playing ball in college for four years, and that will take away from his draft status. Maybe a third round pick. 4) Graham Harrell, QB, Texas Tech. I honestly think that Graham is one of the most underrated quarterbacks in the country. He puts up amazing passing numbers, but doesn't get the credit for it. He lead the league in yards by a long-shot last year, but still isn't an All-American. This lack of exposure will hurt him in the bigs. Also, he plays for Texas Tech, a school that passes every time. And scouts notice the style of offense of the school you are at. If you are at a school that passes every time (like Texas Tech does), that will be taken into account. Just because you put up great numbers, it doesn't mean that you are going to be a high draft pick. Just look at what happened with Colt Brennan coming out of Hawai'i. Is Graham even expected to be drafted? 5) Sam Bradford, QB, Oklahoma. As much as I hate Oklahoma, I have to admit that Sam has some serious skill. In a couple of years, he will be a great quarterback in the NFL. However, being a sophomore, he isn't coming out until next year at the earliest, which means that he obviously wont be a first round pick next year. Honorable Mentions) Matthew Stafford, QB, Georgia. Dan Lefevour, QB, Central Michigan. Todd Reesing, QB, Kansas. I dont see any of these guys being drafted in the first round, either. Stafford has the best chance out of all of them, but needs to prove himself again this year, and get some luck on his side. Could this be the first time in history that a quarterback does not go in the first round? Am I wrong on my evaluation on these guys? I just can't imagine anybody reaching on these quarterbacks.
