The topic is: How does a TV show portray today's family? Is it portrayed as a choice or something that is chosen for us? I chose ABC's "Modern Family." The Traditional Modern Family According to author Stephanie Coontz, the best time for a family to grow up was about fifty years ago. Coontz goes on stating that television played an important role in a family lifestyle saying, “the new family sitcoms gave people nightly lessons on how to make their marriage or rapidly expanding family work or, in the case of I Love Lucy, how not to make their marriage work” (38). In the last fifty years, television has shown family in all sorts of light. But one family, being the traditional family, has started to make a comeback on television in a comedy titled Modern Family. Author Rick Santorum gives the definition that a traditional family is, “a family constituted by a mother and a father who have committed themselves to each other in lifelong marriage, together with their children” (92). With a documentary type feel, Modern Family follows three fictional related families, and their everyday lifestyles with testimonies of the families discussing the scenes occurring or about to occur. The first of three families is Jay whose biological children are Claire, who is married to Phil and has three children, and Mitchell, who lives with his partner Cameron and their adopted girl. Jay has also remarried to a Columbian woman, Gloria, who already has a son, Manny. In the television show Modern Family, Claire's family portrays the American family as traditional. Claire, Phil, and their children are a great example of the traditional family that experiences everything together. At every episode a message is expressed for the audience to relate to of what it means to grow up and be a parent in today's world. Claire and Phil Dunphy portray the stereotypical parents. Claire is known as the overprotective mother to her three children, Haley, Alex, and Luke. During one of Claire's testimonials, she talks about her son saying, “Luke is my baby. Is it really too much to ask that he stay a sweet, innocent kid forever?” This quote is one of many thoughts that run through every mother's mind about their children. Claire is like a “typical” mom, as she loves to organize and usually gets stressed out with her husband, children, and extended family. Phil on the other hand is known as the dad and husband who tries to be cool, but looks ridiculous. Even though Phil may be goofy at times, he is an honest man whose heart is in the right place as he tries to bond with kids and please his wife. He steals the show with both his awkwardness and quotes that seem to make no sense, but make the audience stop and think. For example in one episode, he says, “You never want your kids to see you scared. You want to be that rock that they grab a hold of in a stormy sea. Actually, a rock would sink. So a floating rock.” Or in another episode after Claire and Phil caught their kids lying about smoking he states, “I can forgive the smoking, but I can't forgive the lie... or the smoking.” Claire and Phil mean well in all that they do, and even though they may annoy their children, they still are the ?rock' that keeps their family afloat making them a perfect example of parents in a traditional family who want the best for their children. Speaking of children, Santorum continues arguing that, “marriage matters because children matter…There should be no argument that a married mother-and-father household is the best place for raising kids” (89-90). Claire and Phil have three children who all have different personalities and add their own persona that adds to the show. Haley portrays the oldest daughter and is a perfect example of a young teenager. She wants everything, argues with her parents and siblings, and even acts a little immature when it comes to certain topics. Alex represents the middle child; however, she may be the most intelligent in the family. Like her older sister, she does have arguments with her siblings, but she is the more logical one who can get out of sticky situations. Luke is the youngest of the three and like Claire mentioned, he portrays the “innocent kid.” He does pick on his sisters, but most of the time he is unaware and naïve. One time he called Gloria, his grandfather's wife, a “coal digger” because he heard his mom say that about her as well, but had no idea about the meaning or context of what he was saying. As Rick Santorum notes, “we parents owe it to our children to be honest, to give them a vision of the highest good. Failure to affirm a moral vision to our children is a form of abandonment by parents and by society” (93). Children think their parents are role models so they choose to act like them. As they grow up they will have to make their own decisions on what actions to act on or what words to say. This is the choice that both parents and children contribute to a functioning traditional family. Modern Family po

WASHINGTON (CNN) -- Mexico asked the United States on Tuesday to move forward with the creating a proposal to end a ban on cross-border trucking in violation of the North American Free Trade Agreement. "We continue searching for any opportunity for dialogue and interaction with the (Obama) administration and Congress," The Mexican Embassy said in a statement, according to Mexico's official Notimex news agency. "We urge them to present a specific proposal to resolve the trucking impasse." Under NAFTA, cross-border trucking that would allow Mexican big rigs onto U.S. highways was supposed to begin in 1995. But safety and union concerns led to the United States' non-compliance. A pilot program that breathed life back into the issue was implemented briefly, but canceled a year ago because of lack of funding. In retaliation, Mexico raised tariffs on 90 U.S. products worth at least $400 million since last March, according to Notimex. "We understand the sense of urgency, we're working as fast and conscientiously as possible to see if we can reach an acceptable resolution," U.S. Trade Representative Ron Kirk said at the National Press Club Tuesday. Kirk addressed the issue directly with Mexican President Felipe Calderon during a recent visit to Mexico. Mexico acknowledged that the United States has expressed a commitment to resolving the issue, but wants a specific set of actions, the Mexican Embassy said. http://www.wibw.com/nationalnews/headlines/87176007.html
With Mexico having severe security problems should we allow Mexican Trucks to come over to the US?
So, I play this online game called vSide, and on it, you can pay "real money" to get "vBux" to buy certain things in the game. Now, the site says it only takes Visa or MasterCard...I have American Express...Now, vSide ALSO takes PayPal...So, if I put my American Express card on PayPal, can I pay that way, even though the site says it only takes Visa or MasterCard?...Or is PayPal just something for your credit card to go through?...Basically, does it still have to be a Visa or MasterCard even if I pay through PayPal?...Thanks. :]

So the stereotypes say that American women tend to "express their freedoms" and try to take control of a household. A lot of them say that women in America are b1tchy and everything. I do not entirely agree with that, I have seen those stereotypes mainly in miserable Middle aged women who had too many divorces, 8 out of 10 times she was White but we won't get too much into that. What is your opinion on this?
So the stereotypes about American women being too "controlling", what are your thoughts?

is this a good essay??* it isnt done but here. i need help on my hook. details. conclusion. and the like organization. <how i organize it> u could also writ ur opinion Life with School Uniforms Do you think students should be? Students who wear uniforms have increase attendance, better grades, less trouble at school, and they don't get made fun of. Students can get put down on what they wear. “Play clothes” can distract students during school times. Children can concentrate on work and less on what they wear. School is about learning and education, not on your appearance. First of all, school uniforms provide fewer competitions for fashion. Children get bullied because of what they were. School uniforms allow fairness among the children because it equalizes the less and more wealthy students. It allows lower jealousy rates among students. Nowadays, children shop at stores such as “Aeropostale”, “American Eagle”, and “Hollister.” The prices of uniforms are much less because they are all the same thing. Without uniforms, parents will have to buy more and more clothes because today, children don't want to keep using the same things over and over again. Students don't need to dress up just to impress their friends. School uniforms make all students equal. Using uniforms to school can also decrease the amounts of violence. Students who are being bullied will be feeling less threatened with school uniforms. Studies have shown that schools that have uniform policies have less crimes and attendance is higher. Schools are meant to be a non-violence place for students. The teasing of students will also decrease because everyone basically looks the same. With students feeling safe and good about themselves, that will bring a better school environment. Students can still express themselves with school uniforms. They can fix their hair a certain way. They can also express themselves with makeup and the way they act and talk. They don't have to express themselves during school, they can do that after. Students also think Why wear the same thing 5 days a week almost every month? Well, think about it, wouldn't it be hard to pick and outfit and try not reusing it? It would be way easier to just wakeup get you uniform, put it on and leave. Even though kids hate having to wear uniforms, they actually don't know the good things about uniforms. School uniforms have many advantages at schools such as easier daily preparations, less violence, more discipline, and money savings. Studies have shown that using uniforms would increase grades and would put less stress on parents. It would minimize fight like, “Ha-ha, I got this from Aeropostale and you got yours from Wal-Mart!” Using uniforms will reduce taunting and will increase the “smartness” of children. Wearing uniforms keeps things in order at schools. Students wearing uniforms don't know how it feels when having to spend time looking for an outfit to use 5 days a week, and about 10 months a year. I believe that wearing uniforms are fine because it doesn't matter what you wear at school, everyone looks the same. Help out; ask your principal or school board about uniform changes!
