Come on, 18% soda and pizza tax?
http://news.yahoo.com/s/nm/20100308/hl_nm/us_food_tax The Federal government wants to tax soda and pizza in order to push people towards healthier diets. I see two problems with this: 1. The government is getting too big and is gaining more and more control over our lives. 2. They're trying to convince people that even more taxes are in our best interests. The real reason they are pushing for this tax is to generate more revenue to feed the government's addiction to taxes. When will the American people stand up and say enough is enough? Maybe never, since we slept through Bush's 8 years of reckless fiscal policies.
Do you agree with the government taxing soda and pizza?

Obama's pizza and soda taxes will reduce obesiity; ROFLMAO like his cigarrette tax INCREASED smoking?
particularity in markets with low price elasticity, luxury items that consumers are addicted to, like cigarettes, alcohol, soda. It's a VOLUNTARY tax. You don't have to pay it. Why do some people have such a problem with a VOLUNTARY tax? It's a much better way to raise revenue than to rob people of their hard-earned income. and I'm not saying this just because cigs and soda are bad for you........ (which is a good reason btw), but a better reason would be: It's VOLUNTARY!By voluntary, I mean: You don't have to smoke. You don't have to drink. If you don't engage in those bad habits, then you don't have to pay the tax. engaging in those habits is a voluntary choice.
Don't you think raising taxes on luxury items is a great way to raise revenue?
Should there be an Atlanta Soda Party where they dump Coca Cola into (enter body of water in/near Atlanta here)?
Are you outraged that people suggest we should tax your $1 soda?
Theyre trying to get a new tax on soda because of the huge obesity crisis and want people to become healthier. They also say it will help "raise money" for the budget and help help generate more money to make us healthier. A higher cigarette tax also lowered the rates of smoking. Even if it does significantly helps smoking, would you support the cigarette tax if it means like people dieing from lung cancer due to tobacco use? If the soda tax also curbs more people to stop drinking and to start drinking more water, would you support this tax? DONT YOU WANT PEOPLE TO BE HEALTHIER? So many people have said that a solution to politics is to stop voting Republican and Democrat and start voting Independent. Well guess what! Bloomberg is an Independent too! Does that make for feel any different for wanting to vote Independent? Why should the government have to tell people what to eat and what not to eat? Do you think its fair, even if you dont drink soda, eat fast food or smoke cigarettes?
What do you think of Bloombergs new "Soda Tax" to try and get our kids healthier?
wouldn't this tax cause many people employed buy the soda industry to lose their jobs with less purchases on top of many angry people which will probably increase theft and robbery along with protests against it what's the government thinking. If people didn't want to be obeast they should do something themselves.to all the smoker tax guys i disagree with that because even if u quit you will never recover soda just makes u fat and if u workout right then it causes no harm taxing smokers is right it smoking even hurts the innocent by standards which ruins the people who CHOOSE not to smoke to ruin their health taxing fat people is racist they just need to work out
Is the stupid soda tax fair?
So I am looking to leave my current place of employment, I know I sound crazy considering the US economy right now...but hear me out on this...I have been working at the same place since August of 2004, I was 15 when I started and I am 21 now. In that time my pay has gone from 7 dollars an hour to 8 dollars an hour. Then this past summer my hours got cut way back to one day a week for 5 hours! After taxes I make $35.92 a week. I need more then that. Thing is I don't know where to got look for a job. I can't go work for some place like Wendys or Shoprite because I am disabled. My handicap causes a problem with my balance, so it makes jobs like stocking shelves and carrying food near impossible to do! I do currently work in a restaurant, but I work behind a counter answering the phone, making pizza boxes, hanging up coats, and writing down messages and reservations. I also pour wine and soda for people but that is right at the bar so I don't have to carry it anywhere. I am currently attending college to become a history or english teacher. Since I am doing this I thought about tutoring for money...but I wasn't sure if I needed a degree. I also thought about helping out at my local YMCA doing child care. I can't become a swim instructor because I can't swim well myself. Besides working at the YMCA, I was wondering where I could apply for jobs where I wouldn't be required to lift or carry anything extremely heavy. Someone said to be a bank teller but I was never that great in Math. I can do basic math well, but Algebra, percents and so on give me trouble. If anyone had any ideas as to where I should look I'd be grateful. I was also told to go to unemployment, but I can't understand how I can do that since I am working at least one day a week. Thanks again for all the help."your boss is tolerant of your disability" So I forgot to mention my "boss" is a friend of my family I've known him since I was 8 years old. Its how I got the job so easy.
Any Ideas as to where to look for a job?
Theyre saying because so many people are way too unhealthy and obese, that having a soda tax and junk food tax will help the problem? Theres actually commercials promoting this airing on tv. I just saw it about 2 hours ago. I cant find a link for it on youtube but I saw it. What do you think of it? In NY about a year ago they were also talking about banning trans fat and everyone out on the streets opinions on it said its a good thing so people can be healthier? Is this what they are trying to do? Make junk food and unhealthy things more expensive by taxing it so more people cant afford it? That will only hurt the poorest the most. What about rich people who are also unhealthy, should we make it even more expensive so everyone cant afford it?What exactly are they trying to do and whos supporting this?
How do you feel about these commercials in NY promoting a new soda tax to make New Yorkers healthier?
it is stupid
Why does the government want to tax soda?
Philadelphia is planning on using a 2 cent per ounce soda tax to close the budget cap. Should we institute it nationally? Being fat is just as bad or worse for you as smoking, plus people think you have no self esteem.
