Should the electoral college be abolished?
In a political science class of 47 students, 27 favor abolishing the electoral college and thus electing the president of the United States by popular vote. If two students are selected at random from this class, what is the probability that both of them favor abolition of the electoral college? Round to four decimal places.
Statistics question, probability?
I've been thinking about this issue, and I can only think of two such problems with this concept. And they are: 1. that regions of the country with higher populations would have a disproportionate advantage over smaller, less populated regions. 2. Uneducated and undereducated people may be too easily persuaded to vote a certain way, but then again, that doesn't stop highly educated politicians from being mislead or bought off as it is now. Otherwise, if the majority is restrained and the minority protected by a constitution, how is direct democracy with constitutional limitations such a bad thing? A suggestion and possible solution to the matter concerning disproportionate population sizes if this were applied at the federal level; how about modeling it after the electoral college in a similar way when voting on proposed bills/solutions? A further question, if this won't work on the federal level, do you think this could work at the state level? And I don't mean the occasional ballot initiative, I mean getting rid of representative democracy at the state level in favor of direct democracy. How about the county or municipal level? Just food for thought, not like I want or actually expect this to replace our system of representative democracy.
Why can't direct democracy with constitutional limitations upon the majority work?

I saw a bumper sticker the other day that said: "Obama. Why stupid people shouldn't vote." But, THE PEOPLE DO NOT DIRECTLY PICK THE PRESIDENT. The Electoral College does. Eventhough our votes may influence them some, that does not make the Obama supporter the reason why he is in office. So why is that? Sorry that they didnt' get what they wished for..
