Is the Armenian Genocide resolution a ploy by Democrats to further Republican woes by putting them on record?
is turkey's involvement in the kurdish region just a method of undermining the US and starting an indirect war with the it? turkey did nothing when the EU passed a resolution making it illegal to deny that turkey committed genocide against the armenians, but america didnt even pass it and some say turkey is doing this just to piss america off. should turkey attack america and kill its people as payback for the iraq war?are there any of you who would lay down your life as payback for the deaths in iraq?
turkey's intentions in kurdish region?
OK I know back in 1915 the Ottoman empire (who ruled Turkey at the time) did kill a lot of Armenians and it probably was genocide. But the Ottoman empire was dissolved after the end of WW1. The government presently running Turkey is totally different. What is next we pass a resolution condeming Germany for killing Jews or the Japanese for the Battan death march? Why would they pass a resolution condemming something that happened nine decades ago, now? If it was that important to condem the act then shouldn't it have already been done? I know the Democrat party had to have known about it before now. I know they didn't just recieve a flash over-ride memo from the State Department informing them of what happened in 1915. Is it any wonder Congress has an 11% approval rating.
Why did Democrats push through a resolution condemming Turkey NOW?
For example, the Republicans are opposing Nancy Pelosi's resolution acknowledging the genocide. The head of the Anti Defamation League, a Jewish group, actually denied the Armenian Genocide recently. Turkey officially denies it as well. When there are 1.6 million Armenians, you don't kill 1.2 million of them by accident. Yet, anybody who denies the Holocaust is deservingly laughed at and recognized as being a crazed Neo-Nazi. They are even thrown in jail in many European countries (which I think is an extreme measure and don't support). Why is it that it is politically correct to deny the Armenian Genocide? Clearly, those Holocaust Denying crackpots aren't treated anywhere near as favorably.
Why do so many people deny the Armenian Genocide, yet people who deny the Holocaust are put in jail in Europe?
What difference does it make whether it's called a massacre, a slauther, systematic killings, holocaust, or genocide? Why is the US congress concerned with passing resolutions on historical events? Who benefits? Why?
What is the importance of an Armenian genocide resolution?
I do. It's about time someone in Washington told the truth.
Do you hope the House passes the Armenian genocide resolution?
After reading the resolution for the Armenian Genocide I am very concerned about the priorities of this Congress. Why on earth are we submitting a resolution to condemn the Ottoman Empire that does nothing more than summarize all the public “Government” times and events we have made in the past? This is the most redundant document I have ever seen. It's wasted time and energy that, for the most part, could not have been submitted at the most unnecessary time in our history. The leadership of this Congress needs some serious training on priorities and the decision making process. Put this aside and concentrate on SCHIPs and compromise the increase for an active program that still needs to enroll the two thirds of Americans that are currently available for the program. Every single district of this country is represented in Congress and rather than knowingly submit to the President something that won't pass get out to their districts and identify the people who currently need the program and are not enrolled. I would think that if they were genuinely concerned about Americans who need health care that is where to start. Everyone knows that in the end a compromise will be made on the program, so let's just get it done without the theatrics. Then, we can collectively come to an intelligent and bi-partisan way to protect our boarders. Don't you think that should be in place when the troops in Afghanistan and Iraq begin coming home? Wow, does it take a dumb old enlisted military retiree like me to see the shortcomings of our government's legislative leadership? This is not directed to a single party they all are involved. I thank you for agreeing on the wasted time with the resolution. As for SCHIPs the verbal cry from Congress is to insure children who don't have health care need to have it. SCHIPs is an active program that still does not have two thirds available children enrolled. Senator Hatch (R) is also pushing this legislation this isn't just directed at dems. If the current program doesn't provide for all our children then they need to take care of them, in their districts, and help them.
Decision Making Process of the 110th Congress?
The Armenian Lobby in the US spent Millions upon Millions of Dollars in buying US Congressmen and Women who promised to pass the fallacious Genocide resolution, the Foriegn Affairs Committee passed the resolution opening the path for a full vote in Congress. However, when push came to shove 11 Co Sponors have withdrawn their support and it looks like if it was voted on the Resolution HR 106 would NOT pass Congress. Have a look at this link and I will also post up another article my question is was the money the Armenians spent worth it ? http://www.armenialiberty.org/armeniareport/report/en/2007/10/DBEAECE4-7F37-4492-83A3-6872099EFB26.ASP As they say "There is many a slip between the cup and the lip."Further, still how about this article ;- Turkish 'Genocide' Bill Loses House Support By DAVID ROGERS October 16, 2007 WASHINGTON -- Pressed by the White House and Turkish lobby, as many as 11 House members have withdrawn as co-sponsors of a resolution labeling the mass killings of Armenians under the Ottoman Empire a century ago as "genocide." Seven members pulled their names from the measure Monday and four more as of Tuesday, leaving passage of the bill in doubt. The rapid erosion signals momentum has shifted in favor of Turkey and the Bush administration, which has urged the Democratic leadership to block a vote on the resolution, reported from the House Foreign Affairs Committee last week. Though non-binding, the language has huge political importance to the Armenian-American community even as it has angered the Turkish government, which has mounted a strong lobbying campaign enlisting prominent veterans of Congress from both parties.Turkey recalled its ambassador to the U.S. last week after the committee vote, and as a NATO ally and vital supply route for on-going U.S. military operations in neighboring Iraq, Turkey commands strong allies among Democrats on prominent defense committees. The Pentagon is preparing plans to send military supplies bound for U.S. forces in Iraq through other countries if Turkey carries through on threat to close its air space as part of a widening political dispute with the U.S. Such a move would pose major logistical challenges for the American military, which brings enormous quantities of food, fuel, ammunition, spare parts and vehicles into Iraq every month through the Incirlik Air Base in southern Turkey. Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D., Calif.) remains supportive nonetheless and has pledged to allow a vote this year. But if support continues to erode, she will have to reconsider what price to pay for what could be an embarrassing defeat.Co-sponsor lists aren't a decisive measure of support for a bill in Congress and pressure from the Armenian-American community could yet reverse the situation. But the erosion is striking: as of last week the number of sponsors was listed at 226; it has now fallen to 215, three below the required 218 majority in the House. Prominent Democrats have scheduled a press conference Wednesday morning to call on Ms. Pelosi to reconsider her decision to bring up the resolution. Rep. John Murtha (D., Pa.), a close ally of the speaker and long-time supporter of Turkey, is among the group, and as a senior member of the House Appropriations Committee and the Pennsylvania delegation, he appears to have weighed in heavily in recent days. Among the 11 lawmakers who have withdrawn as co-sponsors, two are fellow Pennsylvania Democrats and four more are Democrats on the Appropriations panel. Mr. Murtha said he had warned Ms. Pelosi against pursuing the resolution and given Turkey's importanceto "the war effort" in Iraq, the timing is a mistake, he said.
Do you believe the money was well spent ?
60% of US military supplies go via Turkey , 20 % of water and food is supplied via ... Turkey, PKK is going to be struck from Turkey in Iraq destabilizing the only quiet Iraqi region. What a move! Iraqi war will end if Turkey will get pissed at resolution!I want them "high and dry" in USA, not in Iraq.Wow, what a help "naval mission" in the mountains of Afghanistan!Ninja are you kidding me? Success in Iraq? What a joke , if you cons believe in it you are delusional!Hey captain change votes or not...it is already working. Turkey parliament authorized military actions in Iraq! We will see at the end.
Do you think it is the Democratic genius to vote for Armenian genocide?
At a time when Turkey may invade Iraq (which would distrupt US supply lines and could destabilize some regions), why are some representatives in congress trying to pass a resolution condemning turkey for the armenian genocide that occured around 100 years ago?
